Congratulations to our amazing athletes for accomplishing their goal at the PF Chang's Half Marathon.  It was an unforgettable day!
Here are the race results for our awesome group:

Dave:  2:29:51 but he would have finished in 1:45 if he hadn't been stopped by race officials because he was so speedy on his handcycle!
Brooke:  1:44:18
Larry: 2:13:06  (first half marathon)
Angela:  2:23:21
Tracy: 2:48:17 (first half marathon)
Mark: 3:30:20  (first half marathon)
Annamarie: 3:35:26  (first half marathon)

Also, a huge thanks to all of the volunteers/guides and sponsors! I'll get back with a list of our wonderful sponsors:)
Stephen, Nora and Caroline, Achilles Greater Phoenix is thriving because of your time and efforts.

Chris Clemens and the 2012 Paralympics in London!

August 21, 2012
Chris came to one of our workouts over a year ago.  He had been working out with the athletes at Arizona Disabled Sports and wanted some extra workouts, so he joined our group as well.  Talk about an inspirational human being!  Chris came with lots of personal goals:  to lose weight, to get faster and to compete in races.  Our group is more of a distance type walking/running but we always welcome handcyclists and wheelchair athletes who'd like to come to our workouts as we use multi-use paths...

The End of Summer is Near!

September 14, 2011

We had a fun get together at the Trone's house to celebrate the summer coming to an end in the valley...hopefully soon! It was nice to get together and celebrate the end of the Summer Series, Chris's awesome performances for the Paralympics (more to come on that soon),  and discuss some fun races for the fall once the weather really cools down.  There is some fun talk of a few members completing their first marathon in the winter. Thanks to everyone who came and brought some food to share!

Arizona Road Racers Summer Series #1

Papago Park

The turnout for this event was the largest in the ARR’s 40-year history, boasting over a thousand participants. The race wound its way through Papago Park, through a tunnel and along a canal. Despite the narrow course and record-breaking number of participants, the staggered start made the course a lot more navigable than might have been expected.
Brooke ran with Greg as her primary guide and Mike and Torsten as frontrunne...

Who PR’s at a 4.2 mile race with over 22,000 finishers?

Brooke Voss does... and with a smile!  Achilles had a strong showing at Pat’s Run this weekend  (pictures soon to come):

On a cool, clear Saturday morning in April, the members of Achilles Scottsdale met up with 22,000 of their closest friends to "run, walk, honor" at the 7th Annual Pat's Run. Fast becoming a Tempe tradition, the 4.2 mile race has attracted more participants each year. This year, registration was capped at 30,000. ...

South Mountain Classic

April 5, 2011

(Actual Post Date: Mar. 30th 2011)

The ARR South Mountain Classic 20k is the most technically challenging course Achilles Scottsdale has run to date. In recent weeks, our Wednesday-night workouts, (planned and led by volunteer Greg Trone) have included repeats and hill technique. The 20k’s hilly course necessitated careful attention to form and management of effort. It provided a great opportunity to road-test some of what we’ve been working on.
The course winds its w...
